Listen to this week's show This week on Caminhos do Jazz we mark the passing of the great singer Nancy King , and bid farewell to several other towering musicians who have left us: the inimitable pianists Hal Galper and Eddie Palmieri , and San Antonio's own  Flaco Jiménez , the celebrated  conjunto accordionist, singer and songwriter. The heart of the program is a deep dive into Impending Bloom , the unforgettable album by King and bassist Glen Moore , which features the whimsical lyrics of Samantha Moore (Justice Records, 1991). Circles in a Yellow Room - Mike Freeman ZonaVibe

Listen to this week's show This week on Caminhos do Jazz, we present  Circles in a Yellow Room (VOF Records, 2025),  vibraphonist  Mike Freeman 's new release with his ZonaVibe project. The album features his compositions and performances with Guido Gonzalez on trumpet, Jim Gailloreto on tenor sax and bass clarinet, Ruben Rodriguez on bass, Roberto Quintero on percussion and Joel Mateo on drums. Freeman, who lives in the Hell's Kitchen area of New York City,  meticulously mixed and mastered the recording during the pandemic. The beautiful physical disc package contains his heartfelt and eloquent notes on the lockdown experience, when "everything was totally unknown and eerily unsettling as the normal sounds and life of the city disappeared."  To begin the show, we return to last week's feature, playing a few more selections from  trombonist-arranger Ryan Keberle 's  Choro das Aguas (Alternate Side, 2025), with pianist-arranger Felipe Silveira , ...
