Listen to this week's show This week on Caminhos do Jazz, we wish--belatedly--feliz aniversário to Ivan Lins , the celebrated Brazilian songwriter and singer-pianist who turned 80 on June 16, 2025, and to trombonist-arranger Ryan Keberle , who shares the same birthday. Keberle  and his Collectiv do Brasil ensemble  have just released an album in tribute to Lins , entitled Choro das Aguas (Alternate Side, 2025), which features pianist-arranger Felipe Silveira , bassist Felipe Brisola and drummer Paulinho Vicente . Listen to this week's show This week on Caminhos do Jazz, we enter Rocky and Bulwinkle's Wayback Machine and imagine that we are in 1939 on the brink of WWII, when "the world is falling apart." We begin with our seed, a lovely rendition of "Are You Havin' Any Fun" from Danish jazz singer Marie Mørck 's brand new release, My One and Only Love (Zack's Music, 2025).  "Are You Havin' Any Fun"  was a big hit for Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra in 1939, but it might have been sung by the character Edward Weyse in PBS' Seaside Hotel , the hugely popular Danish TV show ( Badenhotellet ), set in Denmark during the WWII period,1928-1947.  Read more about all that in our  review of Mørck's album on All About Jazz.  Our program is comprised of songs from the 1939 hit parade--mainly in the US, but we also dip into Brazil and Germany. Up first are several selections from Antonio Adolfo 's Hybrido: From Rio to Wayne Shorter (AAM Records, 2016), including Marcelo Martins ' swinging flute on "Beauty and the Beast." And we've had a couple of stormy nights this past week here in San Antonio. Virginia Rodrigues ' stunning take on Dorival Caymmi's "Noite de Temporal" captures the thunder. What a voice.
