Spring rains, Texas wildflowers, graduating seniors, fresh cuts...

Listen to this week's show

In honor of spring rains, Texas wildflowers, and graduating seniors, we offer fresh cuts from four releases on this edition of Caminhos do Jazz, broadcast live from the studios of Trinity University in San Antonio on graduation day 2026.

The hour begins with two exhilarating pieces from Gafieira Rio Miami's Beleza Pura (Brazilianaire Music Marketing & DBB Production, 2025). For more on Beleza Pura, check All About Jazz's review of the album.

Next up is "Wayne's World," a single from Helen Sung's Oracles (Sunnyside, 2026), her first big band release. Sung wrote the piece in tribute to Wayne Shorter, and precedes it with Shorter's "Diana," performed as a gorgeous duet prelude for Fender Rhodes (Sung) and soprano saxophone (John Ellis). More information on Oracles is in AAJ's review of the album.

Next in line are a few tunes from Francesca Confortini and Ryan Mackenzie's Mosaico (Tessera Records, 2026). Mackenzie created the lovely arrangements, and Confortini sings Brazilian repertoire in (her native) Italian as well as in Portuguese.

The show wraps with a couple of selections from percussionists and multi-instrumentalists Neves e Silva's Ladeiras de Santa Teresa (Far Out Records, 2026). Both musicians come from distinguished musical families: Thiaguinho Silva is the son of percussionist Robertinho Silva (Clube da Esquina, Milton Nascimento, Gal Costa); and Antonio Neves is the son of renowned choro flutist and jazz multi-reedist Eduardo Neves (Edu), who has performed with Hermeto Pascoal.
