Unity Quartet - Santo Antônio

This week on Caminhos do Jazz we're sampling sounds of Brazil in the Big Apple via the newly-formed Unity Quartet: pianist Hélio Alves, guitarist Guilherme Monteiro, bassist Gili Lopes and drummer Alex Kautz, an ensemble of Brazilian musicians who now call the jazz capital their home. Samba of Sorts, their debut album (Sunnyside, 2025), offers a program of Brazilian classics by the likes of Milton Nascimento, Luiz Gonzaga, Djavan and Hermeto Pascoal, along with new samba-jazz compositions by members of the group. Music that makes you want to jump on the boat that's leaving soon for New York... See the YouTube below for a taste.
