Caminhos do Jazz celebrates the life and work of the great Hermeto Pascoal this week--"O Bruxo," wizard of Universal Music, Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist who Miles Davis named as "one of the most important musicians on the planet" (1936-2025). We'll hear a few of his 2,000+ compositions, cuts drawn from his first commercial recording (Em Som Maior, Som Maior, 1965) to his last (Pra Você Ilza, Rocinante, 2024). Sending profound condolences to his loved ones. 💓

As a teaser, here are two clips, both live takes. The first, from 1976, features Pascoal on flute, with Flora Purim and Airto Moreira, performing his "Andei" (I Walked) for a television broadcast. The second, recorded in Brazil in 1988, features Pascoal on keyboards with Carlos Malta on saxophone, Jovino Santos Neto at the piano, Itiberê Zwarg on bass, Marcio Bahia at the drums and Fabio Pascoal, Hermeto and Ilza's son, on percusssion.
